Acquisitions | Managing Editor, Tamesis

Tamesis Books, an imprint of Boydell & Brewer, is a leading academic list specializing in studies of the literature and culture of the Iberian peninsula and Latin America, from the middle ages to the present day. We are seeking a part-time Acquisitions/Managing Editor to be responsible for developing the list by acquiring 25-30 new books a year and for managing the publication process up to the production stage.  This will include both commissioning and the day-to-day management of manuscripts, working in both English and Spanish. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

- Building and developing the list.

- Liaison with general editor and editorial board.

- Management and implementation of peer review process.

- Preparation of publication proposals, including costings and budgets.

- Negotiation and preparation of contracts.

- Dealing with author queries.

- Ensuring the delivery of material to time and budget and to appropriate standards.

- Preparation of grant applications and clearing permissions.

- Liaison with marketing departments.

- Database entry and management.

- Attending relevant conferences, industry events, and book launches; some travel to university campuses.

Qualifications

- Education to degree level, preferably including study of the literature and culture of the Iberian peninsula and Latin America.

- Fluency in Spanish.

- Experience in the academic publishing industry.

- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Familiarity with Photoshop and database maintenance useful.

- Ability to work on a number of different projects simultaneously and to juggle different tasks.

Boydell & Brewer has offices in the UK and US. This will be a North American appointment but does not need to be office-based, given an appropriate location and access to good communications.
